CLUB OVERVIEW
Charlotte Soccer Academy is the only full service club in the Charlotte area, offering our members opportunities to play and develop at all ages and levels from our recreational program up through national level programs. For an overview of our programs, please click here.
CSA LOCATIONS
CSA currently operates several divisions in the greater Charlotte area. Please review the video below or click on the region below for information on the area, programs, directors and more.
CSA offers competitive soccer to players U9 through U19. Open tryouts for our competitive programs are held annually in February (Rising 16U girls and older) and May (all other age groups and genders). Outside of the tryout period, please reach out to the directors for information on team openings. Click here for information.
Our recreational program offers a fun environment for new and developing players as well as those not ready to make a commitment to competitive soccer. CSA Rec operates separate fall and spring seasons. Enrollment is open to all players age 4 through 19. There are no evaluations or tryouts for recreational soccer. Please visit www.CSARecSoccer.com for more information.

The Pre-ECNL program at CSA is designed for the elite boys and girls within the Charlotte area who have the talent, a strong desire and commitment to reach the highest levels of play. The Pre-ECNL pathway helps prepare our players to go on to compete in the CSA National programs by providing a higher level and greater frequency of practices.
The games program consists of league games, tournaments, festivals and friendlies to provide a variety of different scenarios for players to experience and facilitate their learning. We have a big focus on the individual player within this age group with individualized training and learning plans as well as futsal training and games being an important component of the program. The futsal aspect of the program is delivered during the winter months with training sessions and tournaments as we look to continue to develop the players ability to play in tight spaces, deal with pressure, improve their ball mastery and creative skills.
From Director Ben Cook, “We have a big focus on ball mastery and individual technique at this age group so the players can become really comfortable with the ball. We then develop that into skills that can be applied into game situations and help players problem solve and become good decision makers. The players get to play in multiple positions, allowing them to experience the whole game at a young age and improve their tactical understanding off different roles and responsibilities. Our curriculum has a strong emphasis on developing the attacking side of the game and being dominant in possession.”
For the 2024-2025 season, Pre-ECNL programming includes 9U-12U Boys and Girls in Charlotte and 10U-12U Boys and Girls in North/Huntersville.
Prior to every season, the Pre-ECNL teams are each slotted into league play that will offer the players and teams the best opportunity for consistent, challenging competition and appropriate development with the goal of preparing players to move into the National Programs at 13U. This may include playing in an older age group, a more select league, or girls teams playing in the boys league. Teams also participate in friendlies and/or nationally recognized tournaments throughout the season.
Pre-ECNL Staff
Ben Cook and Stephano Williams head up the Pre-ECNL Boys and Girls programs, respectively. Matt Denton and Andrew Steedman take the lead with Pre-ECNL teams in the North and Huntersville sections. Pleaser reach out to them with any program questions or interest.

We have eight geographic regions within Charlotte Soccer Academy. Click on a location to be directed to the location information page.
The ECNL National Girls Program at Charlotte Soccer Academy provides our top players the highest quality training and competition at the highest level available in US Youth Soccer.
CSA’s U13-U19 Girls National level teams participate in the Mid-Atlantic Conference of the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) against teams from Virginia and North Carolina. The teams are based at our home facility, the OrthoCarolina Sportsplex.
CSA offers a Pre-ECNL Program developed to identify promising players in age groups U9-U12 and provide a pathway for consistent growth with the goal of preparing them for successful futures with our ECNL National teams.
ECNL National Girls Director Brian Moore is heavily involved with all teams, players and coaches in the program. Each team will be assigned a head coach, but all members of the coaching staff will be working with each of the other teams in the program. This provides continuity within all teams within the program and also gives our coaching staff the opportunity to work together to benefit our players.

High School Participation Considerations for National Academy Players
CSA National Academy will continue to allow High school soccer for its National Academy with the following criteria to apply.
• Players are not to miss National Academy practice or games for a High School practice.
• High school games are permitted.
• Each player is expected to attend all CSA games.
• Each player is expected to attend all CSA practices unless High school game that night.
• Each player is expected to manage their High School game schedule to avoid burn out.
• Each player must provide their coach with a weekly schedule on Sunday evening/Monday morning of each week’s schedule.
• Each player is to pick and choose the high school games they play in. (For example if there is a game where the HS is expected to win big, CSA practice session should be attended)

The strategic partnership between our Matthews and Uptown sections prepares players to progress from the USYS competitive teams to the Elite 64 program, which is one program in the second step on our Player Development Pathway. The most advanced players in the sections form combined teams that have fun, learn and develop their soccer skills at a high level. The sections’ top teams in 11U & 12U are the developmental teams for the Elite 64 program.
13U-19U boys’ and girls’ teams compete in the Elite 64 platform and play in highly competitive environments where they can showcase their talent and get additional exposure for collegiate opportunities. CSA Elite 64 teams compete in the Southeast Conference against teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida and participate in showcases and/or post-season playoff events.
